Beachfront Park Disc Golf Course

Wild Rivers Disc Golf Club is pleased to share news that final approval for the new 24-hole disc golf course is only awaiting the Coastal Commission. The course located at Beachfront Park (which a tee on a spectacular stone abutment in the Battery Point parking lot) is unique in the nation as it is the first beachfront course of its kind. With its amazing ocean vistas and tree-lined fairways the course is both beautiful and challenging.

Every Sunday at 10:00 AM a club member is at the Backstop on Howe Drive at Beachfront Park for lessons and a game on the proposed Beachfront course site. All levels of experience from first-timers to experts enthusiastically welcome! We have loaner discs available.

The Beachfront Park Disc Golf Course is intended to be one of three courses in Crescent City. The course was conceived during a project brainstorming session at Gateway Education Summer Day Camp in 2003. After the summer camp was over an objects course was designed and played for two years by local kids and adults. This was important to see what park events would need to be considered and worked with. February of 2005 Ron Cole (coordinator for Gateway Education and decision-making member of the Wild Rivers Disc Golf Club) approached Crescent City city planner Will Caplinger who embraced the concept.

Things have been moving very quickly since then and we have encountered the inevitable bumps along the way. Our first was the need for permits. Holes 1, 2 and 10 are designated coastal and need to be given special consideration by the Coastal Commmision. While Will is hard at work on the permit process the club is hard at work fundraising to cover the permit fee that could be over $600.

Speaking of fundraising, to raise money for the baskets, tee pads and signage we are selling sponsorships for all 24 holes at $550 each. Our current list of sponsors include:
